125% Mortgages in the UK have been withdrawn
The 125% mortgage (UK) once extremely popular across the whole of the UK has now been withdrawn by Northern Rock and those lenders that attempted to copy them.
It was born from the realisation that many first time buyers were taking out a bank loan immediately after getting a standard mortgage, then going to the bank to get a bank loan to furnish, decorate etc.
The lenders simply decided to combine both together to save time and what a marketing success it was!
Northern Rocks mortgage book expanded, and its share price rose.
However, nothing remains permanent and as the credit squeeze hit the lenders decided it was too risky to carry on and promptly withdrew the product.
Now a substantial deposit is needed for anyone to raise mortgage finance, and the outlook is not that promising for the return of a more lax lending environment.
Think carefully before securing other debts against your home. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage
